Blacklist Royals have always been a band on their own trajectory - considered noteworthy, notorious, or nothing but a footnote. The real story however, is found within the pages of drummer Rob Rufus’ national book award winning memoir, Die Young With Me, which took the literary world by storm in 2016 and is now being developed into a major motion picture.
“It took five years to write the book, and I’d sent out over 300 manuscripts,” says Rob. “I was getting advice like, ‘Just make it an Ebook, because no one is going to touch this thing.’ At the same time, Blacklist Royals had just been through the major label ringer - the day I got my book deal, I’d actually received an Email from the president of our label, kicking BLR to the curb. It was truly an a new low… and then the phone rings. It just goes to show you, even the losers get lucky sometimes.”
Blacklist Royals returned to Paper & Plastick, who released their debut album, for their latest offering - Model Citizen. “We recorded these songs over a year and a half ago, in the midst of all that drama, and they got caught up in the red tape. To finally have them come out, and be back where it all began, is liberating. It’s good to be home.”
